The graph above is Standard and Poors Case/Shiller home price index for the past 20 years.
The steep downward trendline looks frightening. It looks like it will never stop. But it will. And when it turns, history shows us it very likely will be a sharp turn around.
First-time buyers, those that have not owned a home in the last three years or never owned have until December 31, 2009 to close on a home and claim an $8,000 tax credit. This is a true tax credit and unlike the $7,500 "tax credit" of 2008, this one does not have to be repaid.
